If we talk about the human eyes, there are numbers of facts related to them. Be it about the eye care, vision or the blindness. It is very essential for every one of us to differentiate between the myths and the facts about such a sensitive organ of our body.

We have listed below the most common myths as well as the facts about the human eyes:

  • Watching television from a short distance is harmful for the eyes: It is the most common thing constantly rehearsed by our parents. But the fact is, eyes do not get weaker by watching the television for long period of time, rather they get tired and lead to headache. However, the modern television sets do not emit any harmful radiations and hence, offer a more comfortable television watching experience.
  • Eating carrots makes your vision sharper: Carrots as well as spinach are very good source of vitamin A and their intake in the right amount can help in maintaining a good vision but cannot improve weak eyesight.
  • Computers can damage the eyes: Working on computers for a long time hampers the blinking process of the eyes and hence, strains and makes them dry. It is very essential to take frequent breaks while working on a computer in order to give ample rest to your eyes.
  • Wearing eyeglasses for long worsens your eye sight: The refractive errors in children tend to keep changing with the growing age. Hence, if the eye gets weaker, it is not as a result of constant wearing of glasses, but due to genetic reasons, growing age or other medical reasons.
  • Reading in dim light can affect your eye sight: It only makes the eyes tired and does not lead to any damage to the eyes.

As diagnosis at the right time is always better than treating the disease later, it is very important for each one of us to get our eyes checked regularly by an optometrist; even if we have a perfect vision. Nowadays, with the advancement in technology, a majority of eye problems can be treated effectively.
